Dear Cedarbrae Families,  

We sure are glad to have made it out of that deep freeze, as well as a return to outside activities so students can benefit from fresh air. Kindergarten registration is officially open, and we look forward to welcoming new students and families to our learning community next year. If your child will be attending Kindergarten next year, please fill out the online registration or give us a call at the school so we can assist.

Assurance Survey 

Each year Alberta Education conducts a survey. In the 2023-24 Alberta Education Assurance Survey, grade 4-6 students will respond to questions about their experiences at school related to quality of education, teaching and learning in the areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and aspects of a safe, caring and welcoming school.     

If you have a child in grade 4-6, you will also receive a survey package in the mail from Alberta Education. It will include the survey link and random-access code for you to complete the survey online. This package will also have instructions for accessing the survey in other languages. Both student and parent surveys are anonymous. The results from these surveys are used at both the system and school level to make evidence-informed decisions in service of school improvement. The parent/guardian survey will open January 22, 2024, and close March 1, 2024.  

Upcoming Lunchtime Clubs at Cedarbrae School

I the next few weeks we will be starting some lunchtime clubs at Cedarbrae school. Mrs. Hutchen’s and Mrs. Yellowaga will be having a board game club. Mrs. Larsen will host a drawing club, Mrs. Goodridge a Ukelele group, and Ms. Leanne and Ms. Vanessa will host a student advisory group. Please stay tuned for written notices going home.

Games Club!    

Do you love playing games and want to learn a new one or teach your friends how to play your favorite one? Mrs. Hutchens and Mrs. Yellowaga are starting a games club on January 17 at lunch recess! The games club will run every Wednesday at lunch until the end of February in the Learning Commons.   

Please bring in your favorite game (board games, card games, just no video games) and you can teach your peers how to play! You are welcome to take your game home after each session, or you can leave it and play it each week!

We are so excited to announce that we'll be offering a Drawing Club! Get ready to unleash your creativity as we dive into the world of drawing. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting out, this club is your ticket to a whole lot of fun and imaginative expression! 

Colder Weather is Here 

Please make sure your child comes dressed for the weather each day (boots, hats, gloves, jacket and snowpants) as we will be heading outside for recess unless the temperatures reach –20oC or colder with the wind chill.    

Pick-up and Drop-off Safety Information  

With the arrival of wintery weather and less sunlight in the mornings, the area in front of the school on the road can be slippery. We want to make sure that all students and caregivers cross safely at the crosswalk and ask that everyone adheres to these important safety reminders.  

• Cross the street at the designated crosswalk.  
• Please observe the 30km speed limit and pay attention to all signage.  
• No U-turns in front of the school
