Dear Cedarbrae Families
We hope you had a wonderful weekend enjoying the beautiful weather! Students have been working hard to settle into the new routines and we are pleased to see the learning and engagement that our students have shown since returning.
Terry Fox Run
Our annual Terry Fox Run will be happening on Thursday September 19 in the morning. Students will begin in the gym with a warm-up assembly at 8:45 am. We ask that students come prepared to participate in this event and dress in running attire including running shoes and loose comfortable clothing.
Thank you to Mrs. Joyce and her classroom for organizing this event and to our School Council for providing muffins and water for students after the run. We encourage everyone to “Bring a Toonie for Terry!” All donations will go to the Terry Fox Foundation in support of cancer research. We will be tracking progress this year on a school wide bulletin board in the main hallway.
Volunteer Process
At Cedarbrae School we welcome volunteers to support with field trips and other opportunities throughout the school. Volunteers are an instrumental part of the work we do, and certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers. We thank you in advance for your continued support.
All adult volunteers require a valid security clearance - no exceptions. Once you have a valid Security Clearance, it is valid for 5 years.
For the 2024-25 school year, the CBE has a solution to have the full cost of the online application covered by a voucher.
Volunteer Security Clearance Process
Step 1: Prospective volunteers must first register as a volunteer at the school where you plan on volunteering. This should be done through MyCBE by clicking on the Online Forms and School Registration tab and completing the Volunteer Registration 2024-25 form.
School administrators will verify your identity and register you in the CBE volunteer database. The school office will email you a letter enabling you to obtain a police information check from the Calgary Police Service (CPS).
Please note, prospective volunteers must reside in Canada for a full year before registering. Police clearances from countries other than Canada are not accepted.
Step 2: Visit the CPS online system, electronic Police Information Check (ePIC), to obtain your police check using your CBE volunteer letter.
Volunteers should wait to submit their request until they receive an email from Calgary Police Service – Record Check inviting them to apply for their Police Information Check with VS for Volunteer. This will ensure the voucher is ready to be redeemed by the volunteer.
Voucher costs are covered for online applications only. If a volunteer applies to Calgary Police Service in-person with the e-Pic letter given to them from their school, the $21.25 application fee will apply.
If a volunteer submits their own payment, there is no option for a refund. There is no refund option for volunteers who have previously submitted applications.
If you are unable to complete the process online, you may visit an police information check location instead.
Step 3: Once you receive your clearance document from CPS, you must share it with the school. This can be done through School Engage, in-person or by email.
Annual Volunteer Registration
Each school year you must complete the CBE volunteer registration form. By completing the form, you agree to abide by the conditions that protect the safety, confidentiality and working environment of our schools. You also make a signed declaration about criminal charges.

Attendance
Please inform the school if your child will be absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-8610. Please be sure to leave your child’s name, homeroom, and reason for absence on each message.
Safety and Parking Reminders
A reminder that the area in front of the school is a school zone and that a strict speed limit of 30 mph is in place and U-Turns are prohibited. We have a busy crosswalk in the mornings and after school and want to ensure safety for all students and families using this. Also, a reminder that the staff parking lot is not a designated drop-off or pick-up zone, and we ask families to use the designated zones and street parking when dropping students off.
School Start-Up Packages
All forms must be completed online via the SchoolEngage parent portal (MyCBE – Online Forms), including Demographic Verification updates, Annual Volunteer and Media Release forms. These must be completed each year, and we appreciate parents / guardians attending to this as soon as possible.
Lunch Supervision
For students in Grade 1-6, lunch supervision is available. You can register and pay online for lunch supervision with MyCBE.
Fees and Waivers
School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.
You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.
Cedarbrae Clothing / Merchandise Store
