Dear Cedarbrae Families,

Last week at Cedarbrae School was filled with lots of learning and special events!

Ms. Joyce’s Grade 6 class led a wonderful assembly on Thursday to kick off our Terry Fox Run.  They shared a video that commemorated Terry’s legacy and sang “Fight Song” to bring Terry’s spirit alive before we began our run.  We were pleased to raise $560.64 this year and want to thank all our families and students for contributing to this important cause. A special shout out to our School Council for providing muffins and water to our students after their dedicated run!

Later in the morning students attended another “surprise assembly” to say farewell to Ms. Vanessa. Each classroom presented her with letters, cards, and crafts to show their appreciation and wish her well.

Our Meet the Teacher night on Thursday was also a wonderful success and we were so thrilled to see the many families who attended and joined us in the gym for the BBQ afterwards.  It was so amazing to see the smiling faces and be together as a school community for the first time this year! A special thank you to our School Council for hosting the BBQ for families!

National Week for Truth and Reconciliation

This coming week is National Week for Truth and Reconciliation. Students and staff at Cedarbrae School will be engaging in many learning activities and conversations over the course of the week to commemorate this important week. Ms. Marissa and Ms. Leanne will be coming into each classroom to read “Brave Like the Buffalo” by Melissa Allan to support the creation of a school wide bulletin board to display our commitments to moving forward towards reconciliation. In addition, all classrooms will be spending time outside engaging in learning activities related to the Fall Equinox organized by Mr. Lapierre on Monday. On Tuesday students will be learning about Treaty Seven and engaging in a lesson organized by Mrs. Yellowaga for our whole school.  On Thursday September 26 we ask that students wear an Orange Shirt in recognition of Orange Shirt Day.

Birthday Treats

We know how special birthdays are for students.  At Cedarbrae School we announce birthdays on that last Friday of the month and give students a special birthday pencil in the office. We know that parents sometimes like to send treats for their child's birthday.  We ask that if you would like to send something that be a non-food item (e.g., special pencils, erasers etc.).  This makes things easier and inclusive of all students as we do have many students with food allergies and sensitivities.

Attendance

Please inform the school if your child will be absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-8610. Please be sure to leave your child’s name, homeroom, and reason for absence on each message.

Safety and Parking Reminders

A reminder that the area in front of the school is a school zone and that a strict speed limit of 30 mph is in place and U-Turns are prohibited. We have a busy crosswalk in the mornings and after school and want to ensure safety for all students and families using this. Also, a reminder that the staff parking lot is not a designated drop-off or pick-up zone, and we ask families to use the designated zones and street parking when dropping students off.

School Start-Up Packages

All forms must be completed online via the SchoolEngage parent portal (MyCBE – Online Forms), including Demographic Verification updates, Annual Volunteer and Media Release forms. These must be completed each year, and we appreciate parents / guardians attending to this as soon as possible.

Lunch Supervision

For students in Grade 1-6, lunch supervision is available. You can register and pay online for lunch supervision with MyCBE

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at MyCBE

You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.

Cedarbrae Clothing / Merchandise Store
